Tendonitis

Find Tendonitis Pain Relief in West Hartford

Our chiropractors at West Hartford Chiropractic care about your overall well-being. Tendonitis results from an injury or disease that causes inflammation of a tendon. Tendonitis typically develops in the Achilles tendon, shoulders, wrists, elbows, and knees. However, tendonitis may develop in any tendon.

.

Causes of Tendonitis

Repetitive motion, such as swinging a baseball bat or tennis racket, may cause tendonitis. Runner's knee, de Quervain's disease, tennis elbow, and golf elbow are all types of tendonitis. Many athletes who participate in sports such as tennis, swimming, golf, baseball, running, volleyball, skiing, and basketball are at risk for tendonitis. Some occupations cause higher rates of tendonitis, including carpentry, house painting, and welding careers.

Symptoms of Tendonitis

Joint pain, redness, swelling, and heat around the joint area are all symptoms of tendonitis.

  • Achilles Tendonitis - pain in the area two to four inches above your heel, or at the back of your heel.
  • de Quervain's disease - pain and swelling at the back of your wrist, near your thumb.
  • shoulder, or rotator cuff tendonitis - dull aching pain that is hard to pinpoint to one location, the pain may also extend into your upper arm towards your chest.
  • elbows - Tennis elbow sufferers feel pain in the outer side of their elbows, and sometimes the pain runs down the forearm and into the wrist. Golfer's elbow causes elbow pain in the inner side of the elbow.
  • knees - Jumper's knee will usually cause knee pain below the kneecap. Runner's knee causes pain in and around the kneecap.

Types of Treatment

There are several types of non-surgical treatments to relieve tendonitis pain. Proper healing treatment reduces recovery time. Before scheduling surgery, try non-surgical pain relief treatment. When done correctly, a hot/cold regiment will assist with healing. We educate our patients on how to regulate hot and cold presses at home for successful results. We will also teach stretching exercises to strengthen joints and reduce pain. Over the counter pain medicine is usually all that is required to provide relief from tendonitis pain. Our chiropractor and staff can help you reduce the pain, including elbow pain and knee pain, caused by tendonitis.
